Mexico!?! Yes, I’m going to medical school in Mexico.  To be more specific, I will attend the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara (UAG for short).  Ever since I decided to attend UAG, I’ve been plagued with this idea to document my experience.  There are a number of blogs written by students who have attended medical school at some of the island school (Ross, AUC, SGU, etc), but only one from a UAG student.  LOL . . .  and that author’s experience didn’t go so well.

UAG

I want to write this blog to give insight to other students who are considering attending medical school abroad and may even be considering UAG.  I guess I want to be somewhat of an ambassador.  I want to show that you can go to medical school in a 3rd World Country and still be a successful doctor who can practice in the states . . . Wait, is Mexico really a 3rd World Country?  I’m not sure about that. Excuse me while I Google . . .  OK, so according to Wikipedia, as of 2011 Mexico is a “newly industrialized country”. Nice to know. I digress.

Anyway. I don’t know why once I’ve told people I will be going to med school in Mexico they assume I will be going to to some shanty town or I will be dodging bullets from the Sinaloa Cartel.  Ok . . . so I know why, but still.  But honestly, I was in Mexico earlier this year for almost two weeks and people were just living their lives.  I didn’t have witness or hear of any drug related murders, people weren’t in a constant frenzy, and most of all I felt safe.  Mind you, I wasn’t in Juarez, Tijuana, or McAllen.  In fact, it was after that trip that I decided I was going to attend UAG.  I fell in love with the people and the culture.  I knew that I could live in Guadalajara, Mexico.  I will be writing more detailed posts about myself and why I’m attending UAG in the near future.
